HOSPITAL CORPORATION OPENS NEW RESIDENCE
April 28, 2011
WHITEHORSE – The construction of the new staff residence on Hospital Road has been completed announced the Hospital Corporation’s Board Chair Craig Tuton and CEO Joe MacGillivray.
Crocus Ridge Residence and Health Services Facility consists of four floors; the top two floors will house 34 residential units while the two bottom floors are presently being finished as office space on a build-to-suit lease.
“The opening of the residence signifies a substantial milestone in the history of the YHC and supports the YHC’s recent Top 100 Employers in Canada award”, said Tuton.
The building was constructed by TSL Contractors of Whitehorse with a cost of 17.8 million dollars. It will provide short term housing for visiting medical specialists, temporary and summer relief staff, medical residents, nursing students and other health care professionals. The new residence will be available for staff to move in early May. The bottom two floors will be completed in another 2 months.
“Crocus Ridge Residence will position the YHC to succeed in a very competitive market for recruiting and retaining health care professionals”, said Joe MacGillivray. “Readily available and convenient short term housing is a huge incentive for professionals who are looking to relocate to Whitehorse”.
The old residence will be demolished under a separate contract at a later date.
The name of the building was chosen through a contest that was open to all YHC employees. The crocus is the first flower to bloom every spring on the hillsides adjacent to the residence.
