Work begins on Watson Lake Hospital and Health Services Facility
July 14, 2010

Yukon Hospital Corporation (YHC) Board of Trustees Chair Craig Tuton announced the start of construction on the existing framework for the hospital and health services facility in Watson Lake.

The tendering process has begun and the contract will be awarded shortly for the first tendering package. This package includes the extension of the existing concrete foundation, a large retaining wall, and gravel ramp and driveway.

Based on the latest design and costing estimates for this facility, the Yukon Government recently provided the YHC with final approval to proceed for financing for this project.

YHC representatives were in the community to present the latest interior and exterior design to the community in a public meeting held late last week.

“When we spoke to the residents of Watson Lake previously, we committed to meet with them once our approvals were in place. With the tendering process now underway, we are pleased to be able to show the design of the new Hospital and Health Services Facility to Watson Lake residents”, said Joe MacGillivray, CEO for the Yukon Hospital Corporation.

On April 1st, 2010 the Watson Lake Hospital program transferred to the YHC.

“This is a very exciting time for the residents of Watson Lake as the construction of this facility is becoming a reality”, said Tuton.
