Dawson Hospital Construction Contract Awarded
November 5, 2010
The Yukon Hospital Corporation recently announced that the Whitehorse branch of Dowland Contracting Ltd. was the successful bidder for the Dawson City facility. Their tender had a cost of just over $22 million.
Dowland plans to take ownership of the site immediately and, depending on weather, will complete some of the sewer and water work. Dowland will use the winter to begin the complicated process of product approval required for hospital construction before beginning general construction in spring 2011. The facility is slated to be completed in the fall of 2012.
“We are excited about this award of the construction contract to Dowland,” said Craig Tuton, Chair of the Yukon Hospital Corporation Board of Trustees.
The Dawson City hospital will enhance acute care services within the northern region of the territory. Additional health services will also be located within this facility, including community nursing, physician clinics, and a private pharmacy.
