Orthopaedic Surgeons treat patients with acute or chronic conditions of musculoskeletal system to help patients regain their functioning and avoid pain or disability.
They diagnose and provide treatment options based on assessment of the affected area and supported by X-Rays, CT (computed axial tomography) or MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scans.
At present MRI testing is not available within the Yukon
Each visiting Orthopaedic surgeon has specific expertise which focuses on certain conditions or bony structures, therefore patients may be wait listed to see a particular surgeon.
These visiting specialists divide their time between the operating room and the Specialists Clinic.
Total Knee replacement can be done at Whitehorse General Hospital. Patients requiring hip replacements have to travel outside the Yukon.
