Cardiologists are internal medicine physicians who have further specialized training in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to the heart and blood vessels. In the referral to the cardiologist, the family doctor provides an extensive history of the patient's condition. During consultation with the patient, the cardiologist reviews this history with the patient, performs a complete physical examination and often orders further testing. Testing available in the Yukon may include blood tests, CT (computed axial tomography) scans, X-Rays, Holter monitors, echocardiograms, pacemaker assessment and cardiac stress testing.
