Nutrition and Food Services

The employees of the Nutrition Services together through teamwork, education and exceptional service provide professionally prepared, nutritious meals in a food-safe environment at the Whitehorse General Hospital. We promote optimal well-being for Yukon residents and visitors.

Clinical Nutrition Services:

The department employs Registered Dietitians (RD) that offer nutrition counseling services to in-patients, referred outpatients, by appointment only, and other contracting agencies. Registered Dietitians provide quality nutrition care by following professional standards for Dietitians in Canada. Through education, advocacy and communication Registered Dietitians promote nutritional health and well being for referred clients in the Yukon.

Food Services:

The Nutrition Services department provides food and nutrition services to in-patients, visitors and staff 7 days a week.

Patient Meal Service:

Patient meals are prepared by Red Seal chefs and personally delivered on trays by our dietary aide staff directly to each patient. We use the “Aladdin Heat on Demand” system to ensure that every meal stays hot during the trip from the kitchen to the patient’s bed side.

The menu rotates on a forty day cycle. Patient meals are modified by our Diet Technicians taking into account likes and dislikes as well as allergies and specific diet types of which we have many. We also serve Traditional Foods to those patients who request them.

Patient Meal Times:
Breakfast 7:30 a.m.
Lunch 12:00 p.m.
Dinner 4:30 p.m

Cafeteria Service:

The Cafeteria, known for its Food Safe Excellence Certification and friendly staff, provides quality food at affordable prices. The cafeteria offers three hot meals a day, sandwiches, homemade soups, salads and desserts.
