Diabetes Education Centre

The Yukon Diabetes Education Centre provides individual outpatient appointments or group sessions. We provide teaching and ongoing support to adults diagnosed with diabetes, including persons diagnosed with Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes (diabetes in pregnancy).

For clients in rural communities the Centre also has access to the Yukon Telehealth Network which provides you with the ability to connect with our clinicians at their local Health Centre, so you can stay in your community.

Children with diabetes in the Yukon are referred to a specialized pediatric team in a larger centre by their Family Physician.

Hours
Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Closed for lunch 12:00 to 12:30 p.m.
The Centre is staffed with a Registered Nurse and a Registered Dietitian. Our nurse and dietitian are Certified Diabetes Educators (CDE). They have significant training and experience in diabetes care.
Anyone interested in obtaining information about diabetes is welcome to drop by during the Centre’s hours to pick-up pamphlets or brochures.

Our staff works closely with many health professionals including family physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and home care nurses to ensure that persons with diabetes receive the best possible care.

To become a client of the Centre, a referral from a physician, walk-in clinic physician or community health centre is required. Once a referral is received, the client will be contacted by the clerk and appointments booked. Ongoing support and follow up appointments are available in Whitehorse at the Centre or by Telehealth video conferencing to all clients.

The Yukon Diabetes Education Centre services Whitehorse and all rural Yukon communities including northern B.C. communities. For those persons unable to travel to Whitehorse to attend appointments in person, Telehealth video conferencing is an option. If you are interested in Telehealth, please check with your local health centre.

If you are concerned that you may have diabetes, please see you family physician, walk-in clinic or community health centre to be assessed.
